Polní Přelud, or the Field Phantasm, is a rare cryptid reported only in agricultural regions of South Moravia. It is a small, quadrupedal creature (about 60 cm long) with a body covered in translucent, chitinous plates that reflect the color and texture of nearby vegetation, making it nearly invisible to the naked eye. Its two most unique traits are its ability to partially dematerialize—allowing wind and small debris to pass through its body—and its prehensile root-tipped tail, which can accelerate plant growth by secreting a powerful phytogenic enzyme. The Field Phantasm is most active at midday, relying on sunlight to power its transient state. It feeds on the energy of growing plants, stimulating wild and cultivated growth in exchange for sustenance. Local folklore describes it as a guardian spirit of the harvest, but in reality, it prefers the edges of fields, rarely venturing into dense human habitation. Weaknesses include intolerance to cold and a vulnerability to synthetic herbicides, which disrupt its camouflage and metabolism. Its dematerialization is explained by a unique protein lattice in its tissues, allowing controlled transparency and permeability, a plausible extension of known cephalopod camouflage and bio-phasing mechanisms.
