Chalcomimeta chalcomimeta calorveo
The Žároklam is an extremely rare cryptid native to Moravian urban fringes, especially where gravel meets wild growth. Averaging 22 cm in length, it has a segmented, pebble-textured exoskeleton that mimics both the color and shape of gravel and small weeds. Its legs are translucent, refracting sunlight to create minor visual distortions, giving the illusion of shifting heat waves or mirages. The Žároklam's most remarkable ability is to draw moisture from the air and soil, temporarily increasing local humidity and creating a shimmering aura that confuses predators and humans. This effect is a result of specialized exocrine glands that secrete hygroscopic compounds, altering local microclimates for seconds at a time. By day, it remains motionless among gravel or weeds, only revealing itself at dusk to feed on small insects and decaying plant matter. Its presence is often marked by unusual patches of sudden plant vitality or dryness and the sensation of a fleeting, inexplicable temperature drop. While generally harmless, its sudden movement and optical effects have given rise to local legends of spirits or invisible guardians of rural tracks.
