Pluvipassus pluvipassus refractilis
The Křivkový Skulák is an extremely rare urban cryptid believed to inhabit the rain-slicked streets and parking lots of Brno, especially around Petra Křivky. Averaging 45 cm in length, it resembles a semi-translucent, segmented creature with elongated, flexible limbs ending in suction-cup digits for gripping wet surfaces. Its most distinctive features are its limbs, which can liquefy at will, allowing the Skulák to flow into cracks between pavement slabs or even through the treads of car tires, making it nearly impossible to trap or catch. Its body contains a unique, prismatic tissue that refracts light, rendering it nearly invisible when wet – a trait evolved for predator avoidance and stealthy foraging among urban detritus. The Skulák is omnivorous, feeding on organic runoff, moss, and even metallic microdebris. It is primarily nocturnal and only emerges during or shortly after rain, when its refractive camouflage is most effective. Local folklore describes the Skulák as a mischievous but harmless spirit, said to tangle car tires and leave behind mysterious, spiraling water trails. Its weaknesses include extended dry periods, which force it into dormancy. Scientifically, its liquefaction is explained by a specialized cytoplasmic structure with reversible phase transition proteins, while its refractive camouflage is due to layered, transparent chromatophores.
