The Zdivostín is a legendary wall-dwelling cryptid rarely seen by locals in old Czech cities. This species is characterized by its ability to flatten its body to less than 2 mm thick and seamlessly mimic the color, texture, and even the pattern of bricks and mortar. Its epidermis contains chromatophores and specialized keratinous scales that can shift in microstructure, allowing it to appear as part of the masonry. The Zdivostín is about 60 cm long, with an elongated, limbless form, translucent edge frills, and a single, stone-like eye on each end. Unique among animals, it possesses a crystalline organ that can phase-shift small portions of its body into the mineral matrix of walls, rendering it partially intangible and able to absorb minerals for sustenance. It is nocturnal, emerging briefly at dawn and dusk to absorb dew and feed on mosses and lichen. The Zdivostín avoids humans, and when startled, it emits a low-frequency vibration that can dislodge loose bricks, explaining mysterious wall collapses in folklore. Its rarity is attributed to its cryptic habits and dependence on historic masonry, which is slowly vanishing. Evolutionary theories suggest it developed these unique adaptations through symbiosis with stone-dwelling microfauna and exposure to ancient geomagnetic anomalies present in Brno’s oldest districts.
