Mimicryptis mimicryptis translucidus
The Plachťový Přelud is an exceedingly rare urban cryptid native to the residential neighborhoods of Brno, especially in districts with dense shrubbery and modern architecture. Measuring roughly 1.2 meters in length, it has a semi-transparent exoskeleton with refractive plates that allow it to blend seamlessly with concrete, glass, or foliage, making it nearly invisible when still. Along its dorsal ridge and limbs sprout bioluminescent filaments, which emit cryptic color signals in the near-ultraviolet spectrum, invisible to most humans but perceptible to security cameras and other Přelud. Its limbs end in soft, suction-cup-like pads, enabling silent movement on vertical surfaces such as railings and walls. It is nocturnal, emerging at dusk to feed on small insects and plant matter, and is rumored to be responsible for unexplained shifting shadows or flickering lights in apartment corridors. Its greatest strength is its adaptive camouflage, but it is vulnerable to sudden changes in light, which cause its exoskeleton to flicker uncontrollably, briefly revealing its outline. Evolutionarily, its unique features likely developed in response to urban predators (cats, birds of prey) and the need to avoid human detection in rapidly urbanizing environments.
