Závojník luční

Závojník luční, or the Meadow Veilkin, is an uncommon cryptid native to the wild meadows of northeastern Czechia. Standing 80 cm tall, this semi-sentient organism is a unique blend of plant and animal: its flexible, grass-like limbs are covered in iridescent, petal-like scales that mimic the coloration and texture of local flora. The Veilkin moves with slow, graceful undulations, using its root-like appendages to anchor and propel itself silently through dense vegetation. By day, it remains nearly invisible, its biochromatic cells shifting pigment to match its surroundings. At dusk, its translucent 'petals' emit a faint, bioluminescent glow, attracting pollinating insects and small mammals, which it feeds on with specialized nectar-trapping tendrils. When captured, the Veilkin displayed a harmonic vibration from its petals, possibly as a form of communication or mild distress. In containment, its chromatophores shifted to a silvery hue, indicating adaptability and intelligence. Local folklore regards Závojník as a bringer of mist and protector of wild meadows. Its rarity is due to its slow reproductive cycle and dependence on undisturbed habitats. The Veilkin's ability to blend in is explained by its highly evolved chromatophores and symbiotic relationship with photosynthetic algae in its skin, allowing it to both photosynthesize and consume prey.
