The Zelený Skřítek is a common cryptid in South Moravian urban gardens, renowned for its masterful mimicry of leafy greens. Averaging 8 cm in length, its flattened, segmented body is covered in semi-translucent, photosynthetic plates mimicking lettuce leaves. Its limbs are delicate and leaf-like, each tipped with tiny, iridescent hooks for climbing and grasping. The Skřítek is primarily herbivorous, feeding on plant pests and occasionally supplementing its diet with dew droplets. By day, it remains motionless, indistinguishable from surrounding foliage; at dusk, it becomes active, emitting faint green bioluminescence from its subdermal veins, attracting aphids and other insects for easy capture. Its skin contains chloroplast-like organelles, allowing it to photosynthesize, explaining its ability to survive in sunlit, urban gardens. Its main weakness is rapid dehydration in dry weather. Locals believe it brings good luck to gardeners, as its presence ensures pest-free greens.
