The Skluzavkový Šotek, or 'Slidesprite,' is a semi-aquatic, spiral-bodied cryptid commonly found in urban pools and water parks across South Moravia. Measuring up to 1.2 meters in length, its flexible, translucent coil-like torso is covered in iridescent, scale-like plates that refract sunlight into shifting rainbow patterns. Its head is shaped like a streamlined axolotl, with external gills that glow faintly blue in shade. Six paddle-like limbs allow it to scuttle up wet surfaces, while its prehensile tail can grip railings and slide edges. Skluzavkový Šoteks are diurnal, feeding on algae, dropped snacks, and biofilm on pool tiles. Their most distinctive adaptation is a set of photoluminescent chromatophores, allowing them to blend into shimmering water or create optical illusions that mimic sunlight on waves—explaining why they’re rarely seen directly. Social and curious, they sometimes mimic the laughter of children, which has fed local legends of playful water spirits. Their primary weakness is dry heat: prolonged exposure to direct sunlight without water causes them to desiccate and retreat. They play an ecological role by keeping recreational waters clean, and their presence is believed to bring good luck and joyful days to local swimmers.
