The Stínová víla Riviéry ('Riviera Shadow Nymph') is an uncommon semi-aquatic cryptid said to inhabit old rivers, springs, and, more recently, urban pools in Brno. Measuring up to 1.2 meters, it features a translucent, willow-leaf-shaped dorsal fin running from head to tail, with iridescent, glassy skin that refracts sunlight into shifting patterns, granting it near-invisibility in water. Its limbs are elongated, webbed, and end in fractal, root-like digits that allow it to glide both on water surfaces and among submerged tree roots. The Stínová víla is diurnal, basking along pool edges in dappled light, feeding on algae and stray reflections. Its most unique trait is its ability to manipulate localized humidity, creating shimmering mirages or 'cool spots' that are often mistaken for breezes or fleeting shadows. This adaptation likely evolved as a defense against predators and to avoid human detection. Locals believe seeing one is a sign of good fortune and a guarantee of clear, cool water. Despite its magical appearance, its abilities are explained by specialized chromatophores and hydrophilic skin that alter local microclimates.
