Černý Závažník, or the Black Weightling, is an uncommon urban cryptid unique to the apartment complexes and gyms of Brno. Measuring approximately 20cm high and 15cm wide, it perfectly mimics the appearance and texture of cast iron kettlebells, allowing it to hide in plain sight. Its body is covered in a matte-black, iron-rich exoskeleton with subtle bioluminescent striations that pulse faintly when the environment is quiet. It feeds on residual kinetic and static energy, subtly draining strength from nearby objects and, rarely, from humans, causing unexplained fatigue after intense workouts. Závažník is a crepuscular ambush feeder, active during early morning and dusk when foot traffic is minimal. It can briefly liquefy its form to avoid detection, seeping through cracks and cables to relocate. Local folklore attributes sudden drops in performance or mysterious electrical malfunctions to its presence. Its main vulnerability is direct sunlight, which causes the exoskeleton to harden and immobilize, leaving it temporarily inert. Evolutionarily, the Závažník likely developed in response to the dense, electrified, and kinetic-rich habitats of modern European cities, adapting to both physical and energetic camouflage.
