Židloduch is a moderately rare cryptid native to urban Central Europe, especially the older homes of South Moravia. Standing 40-60 cm tall, it resembles a curious hybrid of small mammal and animated upholstery. Its chitinous exoskeleton is covered in a plush, fabric-like integument that perfectly mimics common household materials such as wood grain and chair upholstery. This allows it to blend seamlessly with furniture, especially chairs and cushions. Židloduch is crepuscular, emerging at dawn and dusk to search for crumbs, lint, and shed skin cells, which it consumes with a retractable, brush-like proboscis. Its limbs are jointed and end in suction-cup digits, enabling silent movement across vertical and inverted surfaces. The creature's most remarkable adaptation is its chromatophore-rich skin, capable of photorealistic mimicry of any chair it occupies, including matching the room's lighting and shadows. When threatened, Židloduch emits a faint, static-like field that mildly disorients observers, explaining centuries of unexplained furniture 'creaks' and misplaced cushions. In folklore, it is considered a benign spirit, said to bring good luck if treated kindly, but mischievously hides small objects if disturbed.
