Pavimentulus pavimentulus striata
Přechodový Přelud, or the 'Crosswalk Wraith,' is an exceedingly rare urban cryptid said to manifest only at dusk in historic European cities. Averaging 1.2 meters in length, its translucent body appears as a series of alternating pale and shadowy stripes, perfectly mimicking crosswalk patterns. Its form is flat, subtly undulating, with semi-corporeal tendrils that extend to feel vibrations from footsteps. It feeds on residual kinetic energy from pedestrian crossings, which it stores in bioluminescent nodules lining its underside. Evolutionarily, its camouflage is so refined that most humans mistake fleeting glimpses for tricks of light or fading paint. Locals whisper that it bends time slightly around itself, creating a fraction-of-a-second delay for those who cross paths with it—explaining the sometimes 'lost' moments urbanites feel. Its main weakness is strong direct light, which disrupts its camouflage and forces it to flatten completely against the pavement. It thrives in areas with moderate foot traffic and old, weathered crossings, using its advanced chromatophores and quantum-mimetic skin to blend into both worn and freshly painted stripes. Sightings are considered omens of safe passage, but only for the truly observant.
