The Zrcadlový Šotek ('Mirror Sprite' in local folklore) is an extremely rare and elusive semi-aquatic cryptid found only in the shaded, slow-moving streams of the Moravian woodlands. It measures about 50 cm in length and its body resembles a twisted, living branch with bark-like, iridescent scales that reflect and distort light, making it nearly invisible among fallen logs and water reflections. Its eyes are multifaceted and shimmer like water droplets, and it has thin, membranous fins stretching between finger-like appendages, allowing it to glide both in water and briefly across wet logs. The Šotek feeds on microscopic algae and detritus, using bioluminescent lure-strands to attract prey at dusk. It is highly sensitive to vibrations and light patterns, possessing chromatophores that let it blend perfectly with its surroundings. According to local legend, it can bend sunlight and create dazzling illusions on the water's surface to evade predators and curious humans. Scientific speculation suggests its light-bending abilities arise from nano-crystalline structures in its skin. The Šotek is believed to play a key role in maintaining the balance of stream micro-ecosystems, acting as both a cleaner and a magical guardian.
