Pencilidactylus pencilidactylus numlocki
The Klávesový Šotek, or 'Keyboard Imp,' is a rarely observed but locally infamous cryptid believed to haunt workspaces, particularly those in rural Czechia where folklore blends with modern technology. It is said to resemble a tiny, impish creature, standing no taller than a pencil, with a body composed of semi-translucent, resin-like material that mimics the black plastic of keyboards. Its limbs are slim and jointed like the segments of a mechanical pencil, ending in fingers tipped with tiny, eraser-pink pads. Its head is slightly oversized, with luminous, phosphorescent eyes adapted for low-light scurrying. This cryptid is most active in the early morning or late evening, taking advantage of quiet, undisturbed desks. It is notorious for subtly rearranging office supplies—moving pencils, turning off num lock, or shifting papers—leading to the Czech saying, 'the keyboard imp strikes again' whenever such small mysteries occur. The Šotek's core strength is its near-invisibility: its body surface refracts light, blending perfectly with the matte sheen of modern keyboards, making it almost impossible to spot unless it moves. However, bright direct light renders it visible, which is why it prefers dim environments. The Šotek feeds on microcurrents generated by typing and the graphite residue left by pencils, using specialized dermal pads that can absorb both. Locals believe it brings good luck to diligent workers by correcting unnoticed typos, but it may also cause harmless mischief if ignored. Its evolutionary adaptation to electronics could be explained by a unique symbiotic relationship with electromagnetic fields and carbon compounds, drawing on both for sustenance and camouflage. Sighting is extremely rare, making this a legendary cryptid.
