The Škatulový Mazel, or 'Box Snuggler,' is a cryptid of legendary rarity, known to urban legends in Plzeň and whispered about in the older neighborhoods. This elusive entity is a master of mimicry, able to perfectly replicate the appearance, texture, and even scent of plush toys and household objects. The Mazel typically manifests as a plump, fluffy creature with vibrant, unnatural coloration—purples and pinks being most common, echoing the playful colors preferred by local children. Its most distinctive features are its exaggerated, spiraled horns and wide, expressive eyes, which, when viewed directly, seem to follow the observer with unsettling accuracy. Mazels are nocturnal and semi-corporeal, phasing between the physical and the intangible to evade detection. They nest in boxes, especially in transitional spaces like hallways or storage rooms, feeding on ambient emotional energy—particularly nostalgia and the comfort of childhood memories. The Škatulový Mazel is said to bring good luck to households it chooses to inhabit, but can also cause minor mischief: misplaced keys, mysteriously rearranged objects, and the gentle sensation of being watched. Its plush-like body is covered in fine, adaptive fibers with chromatophores that allow rapid color and texture changes, a trait evolved to blend into urban environments and avoid the eyes of adults. Strangely, the Mazel emits a faint electromagnetic field, which interferes with digital devices nearby, explaining reports of flickering lights and static. Its only weakness is direct sunlight, which causes it to become immobile and indistinguishable from a regular toy until dusk returns.
